Creative and easy bowls and trays with modeling clay
Modeling paste is a great material for making crafts, it is simple, fun and does not stain too much, also you do not need an oven for drying because it dries in the air. You can paint it, combine it with other materials, make engravings….
Working with modeling paste is very similar to working with plasticine, except that after the paste hardens and you can paint it, you can make shapes, figures, sculptures ...
In our case we have made some small bowls and decorative trays that can be used to put small things like earrings, rings, bracelets ...
Material needed to make the decorative trays with modeling paste:
- White modeling paste that air dries (you can find it in stationery stores or multi-price stores)
- A plastic knife
- A crystal glass or round mold
- A rolling pin (of those for kneading dough)
- A straw or straw (for sipping drinks)
- Hamma Beads (they are tubes that are used to make crafts, in the blog you can see some crafts that we have made with them)
- Markers (better thick-tipped) or colored tempera
- A brush if you use tempera
- Clear nail polish
How to make the decorative trays:
We have made 3 different trays, the mini tray decorated with the hamma beads, the mini heart-shaped tray and the tiny bowl.
Bowl with modeling paste and hamma beads
Take a piece of modeling paste and make a ball with it, then with the help of the roller, flatten the ball as if it were pizza dough but do not leave it too thin, then cut a circle with the help of the glass or the round mold. After it begins to shape it, you can help yourself with the glass, using it as a mold, put the pasta on the base of the glass and give it the hollow shape (bowl shape).
Once you have the shape you want, smooth with your fingers and bend the edges a little to make them thicker, when you have it as you want, start to put the hamma beads tubes embedding them in the paste, being careful not to pierce it and they come out on the other hand.
Let dry for at least 24 hours.
Once dry you can paint it with a little transparent nail polish to give it shine
How to make the blue bowl with the modeling paste
Follow the same steps as the previous process and make it a little higher so that it looks more like a bowl, then fold the edges out to make them a little thicker and with the help of a straw mark small circles on the edge.
Let dry for at least 24 hours.
Once dry you can paint them with colored tempera, with markers or combining both.
Finish off with a little transparent enamel
Heart-shaped tray with modeling paste
Follow the same steps as the previous process until you smooth it with the roller, now draw a heart (you can do it with a toothpick, marking the shape first) and cut out the shape.
Once cut, lift the edges a little so that it is not so flat and in the same way that we have done with the previous one, make marks with the straw to give it a little relief.
Let dry at least 24 hours
When it has dried you can paint them with colored tempera, with markers or a combination of both.
Finish off with a bit of transparent nail polish to give it shine.
You can make them as big as you want, in my case we have made them mini but you can make them the size of a plate or give them a rectangular shape…. It does not matter if they are not perfect, the rustic style gives them an imperfect and handmade touch 😉
Happy day 🙂
